First off let me say that today’s site comes based on a recommendation from my friend Aaron, so thanks Aaron! Second if you have any recommendations for Yo! Totally please submit them using the Contact Us form. Now to today’s site, I was going to provide a hot new site that provided excellent lyric searching capabilities with limited ad intrusion, but then Aaron turned me on to songmeanings.net. Now let me start by saying that one of the most annoying things about most lyrics sites on the Internet is their attempts to fake you into either clicking an ad or clicking an affiliate referral link. With that defined the reason why I decided to go with songmeanings.net today is that it is not only an excellent lyric database but also has many user based submissions for what the songs actually mean and met my requirements of minimal ad intrusion.

So what really is in a company name? Well in this day and age company names can be hard to come by. While Yo! Totally wasn’t our first choice it was a very fitting option for us, but it took some magic to figure out it was the right name. That magic in part came from dotomator.com. More specifically it came from their old bulk tool where you can take two sets of words and merge them and check the online availability. The biggest drawbacks are that you are limited to 15 words for the prefix and suffix and if you find a name you like their only option to register it is an overly expensive registrar. The good news is that you can just go to a more reasonably priced domain registrar if you find a name that fits well.

In the world of blogging there are an endless number of folks one could follow. One of the very best in the genre of geek/car-buff/technology is pstam.com (aka paulstamatiou.com). Paul Stamatiou is someone I have been following for years and I have always enjoyed his practical approach to writing. Paul is not afraid to share his opinion and I have found that more often then not that opinion very much reflects my own opinion.

Okay if you haven’t heard of Pandora by now you need to get out from under the rock you have been living under. In many ways this online streaming music service has helped redefined the music industry. Pandora is based on the Music Genome Project, which defines music using hundreds of attributes and a complex algorithm to provide a personalized music stations base on music that specifically interests you. The service totally rocks but there are a few helpful hints that will make for a better Pandora experience. First when searching it is best to search for very specific songs that interests you. I have found that searching for styles or even artists usually provides results that are too generic. Second, if you’re like me you hate ads as much as the next guy. Pandora is a business and they have royalties to pay so they need something to keep the lights on. If you become a regular listener do yourself a favor and signup for an account. It is cheap enough and provides some great additional benefits!

Today’s site is boingboing.net. BoingBoing started out years ago as a zine and was perfectly suited for explansion on to the web. Their quirky posts have filled my world with everything from the interesting to the extremely odd for many years now.Where else can you read about How to bake cookies on the dashboard of your car or Crudely streamlined Honda Civic reduces drag.

townme.com is Totally Awesome. These folks have stuffed local community information online in a useful and usable way. If you find something is missing or incorrect in your town’s site you even have the ability to change it since they incorporated a wiki into the service. Other awesome features include fun and interesting indexes (like a Cougar index, a Yuppie index, and even a Starving Students index). I highly recommend checking our townme.com.
